Erbprinz Rupert of Pappenheim

The heir to the Duchy of Pappenheim, Prince Rupert is a man who seems destined for great things. Only in his late twenties he has already lead the forces of the Western Circle to victory over the army of Ikeaonia at Grosser Feuerbach. The prince here is shown with two members of his own regiment as well as his favourite hunting hound (hiding in the back).

Grosser Feuerbach

Here is a copy of the letter written to Emperor Seigfreid after the battle of Grosser Feuerbach by the Erbprinz.

To his Imperial Highness, Emperor Siegfried,

I write to you my Emperor following the engagement that took part outside the town of Grosser Feuerbach. The forces of Ikeaonia under their Crown Prince Ferdinand engaged the forces of the western Circle of the Reich. I had chosen to deploy my forces between the town of Grosser Feuerbach and the Fuchsholz forest.

The first line of Infantry consisted of the forces of Pappenheim with the Foot Guards holding the left, the combined Grenadiers in the town of Grosser Feuerbach and my own ErbPrinz Musketeers on the right of the town, all under the command of Major General Albtraum. Next to them was placed a battery of heavy guns, then The ReichsMarshall Musketeers, then Prince Lothar’s Regiment and the von Rabe Musketeers taking the extreme right of our line. Major General von Rabe led these troops. Our second line consisted of Major General Graf von Reindl’s Witzboldfelder’s, the Archbishop’s Guards, von Reindl’s brigade and von Furcher’s brigade upon the left. To their right the forces of Alt Braunbar under the redoubtable Major General Graubarbar, von Affenpinscher’s Brigade, von Hovaworth’s Brigade and Von Elche’s brigade.

Upon the Left wing Major General Wehrwolf led von Werth’s Cuirassiers, von Mercy’s cuirassiers and von Tsaerclass’s ChevauxLeger, whilst upon the right behind the Fuchsholz I placed Major General von Krupp with the Reich’s dragoons of Graubarbar’s Brigade and von Krupp’s brigade.

Facing us stood the indomitable Prince Ferdinand’s forces with Major General Alderstrale’s column of four brigades of foot holding their left, Prince Sven the Bold with four brigades in the centre including the elite Life Guards and Von Trapp’s Helvetian brigade. Then the Crown prince placed his two batteries upon their right. Next came the flower of Ikeaonian horse, four brigades of cuirassiers under the valiant Major General Ehrensvard. Finally upon their right where three brigades of Dragoons under Major General Fersen.

Upon seeing the Ikeaonian disposition I commanded Major General von Krupp to move to support our centre and signalled for an advance. Whilst Major General Albtraum moved his troops forward with alacrity it seemed Major General von Rabe’s forces where less eager to come into the battle.

Crown Prince Ferdinand seemed determined to force the issue with his overwhelming cavalry force and much of the battle hinged upon the sweeping attack upon our left by the seven brigades of Ikeaonian cavalry.

I can say unreservedly that the forces under the command of Major General Wehrwolf fought without peer, the two brigades of cuirassier’s destroying Ehrensvard’s command with the support of the Archbishop’s Guards and our own Pappenheim Foot Guards. Indeed the Major General placed his life at risk in every instance and it was only through the grace of the divine or his own peerless swordsman ship that the general survived the battle. During this melee upon which the battle hinged the Archbishop’s Guards did sterling service until they were driven from the field by the savage attacks of the Ikeaonian cuirassiers.

A commendation should also be given to Major General von Krupp as he managed to capture both of the Ikeaonian's heavy batteries despite the threat of the Helvetian brigade.

Whilst a whirlwind cavalry battle ensued upon our left Prince Sven brought his brigade forward and managed to destroy the Pappenheim Grenadiers and my own regiment.

As the dark of night fell the forces of the Crown Prince withdrew leaving the Imperial forces masters of the battlefield.

Your Servant
Lt General, the ErbPrinz Rupert von Pappenheim

Pappenheim Artillery

The artillery of the Duchy is a relatively small formation with only one field battery of heavy guns at the dukes disposal. This has left the forces of the western circle searching to increase it's numbers of guns. The recent battle of Grosser Feuerbach may have solved this issue with two batteries of Ikeaonia guns being captured by the Reichsarmee forces.

States of the Western Circle

Duchy of Pappenheim

The Duchy of Pappenheim forms the largest component of the Reichsarmee of the Western circle of the Empire, currently their forces consist of six brigades of infantry, four brigades of cavalry and a battery of heavy guns.

The Duke, Prince Maximillian von Pappenheim is also the hereditary Reichsmarshall of the Empire a position his line have held for many generatiuons. He has reformed his army into a much more modern force than that of his forebears. Currently the Duke is commanding the main Reichsarmee currently in the eastern provinces of the empire.

His son and heir the Erbprinz Rupert von Pappenheim currently commands the army of the Western circle. He recently fought his first battle outside Grosser Feuerbach defeating the forces of the King of Ikeaonia and sending then scurrying back to their fortress of Straslund.

Margravinate of Alt-Braunbar

The Margrave Erich's lands sit uneasily upon the border of the Elector of Vandenburg. Whilst he remains firmly commited to thye empire his larger and aggressive neighbour does cause him much concern.

Currently the army of the Margrave consists of three brigades of foot and a brigade of dragoons who are serving with the Western circle of the Reichsarmee

Electorate of Witzboldfeld

Ruled by the Elector Spiritual of the Empire of Pangaea the Witzboldfelders are in a state of confusion as he has brought many new ideas to Witzboldfeld. Seen as a radical by several of the other Electors what will happen to his lands remain to be seen.

Currently the elector provides three brigades of foot and two brigades of horse to the Reichsarmee.

Archbishopric of Maitz

Archbishop Goostave de Ente und Spurhund-Jungen is the uncle of the current Elector of Enteburg, called to priestly orders at an early age he was installed as the Archbishop of Maitz ten years ago. During that time he has steadily improved the lot of his subjects and his own coffers through a series of internal taxation reforms. His lands are scattered across several parts of the empire which can sometime prove difficult to manage but the old Goose has handled it with aplomb.

He has raised two brigades of foot from amongst his lands which he has sent to join the Imperial forces.

Archbishopric of Bampfberg

Prince Heinrich von Holdstein-Braunbar is the current culer of Bampfberg, a recent appointment he is closely related to both the Kings of Holdstein and the Margraves of Alt-Braunbar. Another of the scattered Archbishoprics Bampfbergs lands fall largely within the electorates of Enteburg and Munchausen.

Currently the Archbishop has supplied two brigades of foot to the Reichsarmee.

A new project!

Well having almost finished the Enteburgers I have begun commisioning my second SYW Imagination army. The intention is to have the forces of the following states the Duchy of Pappenheim, Margravate of Alt-Braunbar, the Electorate of Witzboldfeld as well as the Archbishoprics of Maitz and Bampfberg.

These forces will be raised for use with Sam Mustapha's Might and reason ruleset the details of which can be found here. http://www.sammustafa.com/mr.html

Finally I couldn't have done this project without the assistance of David from Not by appointment who's website can be found here at Not by Appointment
